Frequently Asked Questions
when travelling to Norway
|
Q. |
What about insurance? |
|
A. |
As shown in the terms & conditions, insurance is the sole responsibility of the individual. Although before purchasing insurance, it is worth checking if a policy you already have covers your fishing tackle when travelling abroad. Also, it is worth checking that you have an up to date European Health Insurance Card. This replaced the old E111 form in January 2006, and although it will not necessarily cover everything it will entitle you to reduced cost & sometimes free medical care. It can be applied for online here It is always advisable to obtain full medical cover, just in case. |

| Q. |
What
is the recommended clothing? |
|
A. |
The weather can be very similar
to the British weather and can be very hot during the day but
cool in the evening so just pack accordingly e.g. wading jacket,
breathable waders, warm pants hat etc. (I would also advise
eye protection, when casting).

Q. |
Is there regular trout fishing
on the rivers?
|
|
A. |
No regular trout fishing on
the rivers, but there are plenty of still waters around in
the event anyone wishes to try.

| |
Q. |
What wt single-handed rods are
most suitable for Salmon on Oyensaa & Stordalselva or Nordalselva
rivers?
|
|
A. |
Great sport can be had with
anything from a 6wt to 8wt 9ft 6in. We would recommend a Double
hander for Namsen or Bjora.
|
| |
Q. |
What breaking strain tippet
would you recommend for the Salmon?
|
|
A. |
Again this depends on the size
of fly you wish to use, but some of the rivers can be rocky in
places, so carry some 10lb but as a guide average 12lb to 15lb,
especially If you get lucky like one person last season with
a 20 kilo on Namsen. It’s always wise to be prepared.

Q. |

Towels should be provided but nice to have
one of your own.
|

How does the communal catering
work?
|
|
A. |
Shared catering responsibility (Just muck
in basically). All food will be supplied.
|

Q. |
Is there easy access to a local
town? What amenities does it have?
|
|
A. |
Nearest town is Namsos 50 Kms. The Sjoasen
hotel is approximately 10 Kms and provides a bar. Local store
and Fishing shop 10 Kms, not recommended for a serious fly
fisherman. (if you wish to purchase alcohol we can pick it
up for you at the nearest store, but it can be expensive, it
might be wise to bring a bottle over with you).

We will be hoping for a good supply of
rain, but it is always wise to pack sun cream just in case.

Will we require insect repellent?
|
|
A. |
Always useful to carry insect repellent
in the summer months.
|
| |
Q. |
Approximately how much NOK should
we bring with us?
|
|
A. |
Most people bring about £200 in NOK,and
only spend half. There is plenty of fishing included in the
price, but if you wish to pay for additional day tickets on
some of the beats on Namsen, Bjora & Stordalselva this
could amount to £50 but if we have good conditions, there
will be no need for any money at all unless you want to buy
something.
|
| |
Q. |
What fly lines should I bring?
|
|
A. |
Floating lines will cover most situations,
but it is always handy to have a sinker or sink tips in your
bag in the event of high water conditions.
|
| |
Q. |
What is the best way to transport
my gear when travelling?
|
|
A. |
I would recommend that you use a Kiss Case
to transport your rods, this saves them getting damaged, and
you can also slip reels and fly boxes etc. in there with them.
|
| |
Q. |
What flies should I bring?
|
|
A. |
Although there
are several local patterns for different rivers, conventional
flies & tubes will cover most situations. Local patterns
will also be revealed on arrival. Small tubes can be very productive.
